The holiday season is now here again and that means most of us will be traveling more like it or not. I would like to pass on some ideas and thoughts of how to conserve some fuel during this holiday season. The simplest and most effective idea is to get a credit card that offers you a discount on fuel purchases, this way you are always paying less than average street price. Second try and fuel up on Wednesday I have recently read in a interesting article about fuel saving that this is typically the cheapest day of the week to tank up.
The value of planning your driving is priceless, joy riding is really not a option for most people if you want to be able to afford buy anything that is. I would caution against using any of the miracle fuel saving additives that most stores are selling, I have read the bottle(s) of over a dozen products and the cost and time of adding them hardly makes this option worth while.
One product that I personally have had excellent luck with is Slick 50 this product reduces friction which can result in increases fuel mileage. When you do your next tune up you can also check into getting a hotter plug to increase your combustion. the bottom line is a wel tuned car that is driven well will get good to excellent mileage.

Time to think about Car pooling
The recent unexpected serious increase in the price of gas now puts most of us back where we were the last time gas was hovering around $3.00 a gallon. We will be facing tough decision as to what we can afford and not afford to buy. One solution for this problem is to car pool with coworkers, working out a driving schedule can save you both fuel and wear and tear on your vehicle.
The other advantage for carpooling is it decreases our use of fuel and sends a clear message to the greedy oil barons using world events to speculate the price of crude to historical highs. I have often heard talk of supposed "black outs " or days not to buy gas to send a clear message to the oil companies, this is a great idea how ever it is short lived as it is only one day here or there. When enough people car pool the demand for fuel will decrease and keep decreasing as long as people a diligent.
Enough is enough, It will now cost me over fifty dollars to fill my Mercury Sable, never mind what the Suv and Pick up truck owner(s) will be spending at the pump. I have mentioned in previous posts that keeping your vehicle tuned up can help with fuel consumption so please keep this in mind.
You can make a difference all any one needs to do is think ahead and act! Drive better, car pool do not make unnecessary trips etc. It does not look like the price is coming down any time soon so we need to stick together and make changes ourselves.

WARM IDEAS FOR COLD WEATHER.
The cold has struck most of the country and now is the time to change some habits, although running the car fifteen minutes in the morning means your not cold it does eat up allot of gas over a five day work week. I would like to bring to your attention that most modern cars are made to be warmed up while driving, and you could save around a 1/4tank of gas in a months times by not warming the car up for long periods in the morning. If you happen to live in the areas of extreme cold consider a oil heater or anti-freeze warmer, their sold in most automotive stores and some retailers. I have stated alot about keeping your car in good shape, I would suggest that just in case of a flat or random breakage you have the right materials on hand to make it through a cold weather break down. The list is simple but quite effective first have several warm blankets, gloves, flashlight(s),flares, good jack, extra spare tire and a cell phone to ensure your rescued. This list might sound like a no brainer but how much of it is in your car or truck? Well thats all till next time, drive slow and safe!

DON'T SMASH THE GAS PEDAL
The value of going easy on your gas pedal is profound! every time your in traffic and keep hitting the pedal fast your wasting gas and not really getting any where fast. you have heard slow and steady wins the race well its does with fuel mileage. take it easy and watch your fuel economy get better almost right away, well enough preaching just remember you can beat the oil companies if your smart enough.

The Awesome OIl Change
No one ever thinks about it but changing your oil is another way to conserve gas,so using the right grade oil is always real important. The owners manual for your car can provide the specific information on what grade, weight etc to use. I would suggest using a better quality oil instead of store brand if only for the simple fact you know your getting a product that can take the rigors of today's driving! Your in the drivers seat and this time of year paying to have some one else change the oil is a real good idea. this just reinforces keeping your car in good working order.

COLD WEATHER ADVICE
THE COLDER TEMPS ARE BACK AND ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE RUNNING THEIR CAR TEN OR TWENTY MINUTES TO WARM IT UP,THIS WASTES ALOT OF GAS AND TODAY'S CARS ONLY NEED A FEW MINUTES RUNNING TO START TO BUILD HEAT(DRIVING IS THE FASTEST WAY TO GET HEAT!) SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO RECONSIDER SPENDING ALL THAT MONEY JUST TO GO OUT TO A WARM CAR OR TRUCK.
